At Plumetine, we have chosen a natural and vegan alternative to animal down and polyester padding.
A 100% plant-based material, pure and healthy.
Surprising properties
Light and airy
Kapok is the lightest plant-based fibre in the world.
The unique quilting method we have developed for our quilts allows it to reveal all its swelling power.
Natural thermoregulation
By allowing
the elimination of perspiration thanks to
the air trapped in its fibres, Kapok facilitates the thermal regulation of the body during sleep.
Anti-mite
Kapok resists the invasion of
moths and mites thanks to the bitter substance it naturally produces to protect its fibres from insects.
Nature in its purest form
A plant-based fibre
Kapok comes from the fruits of trees from the Bombacaceae family. We specifically use the fibres from the Ceiba Pentandra species, which originates in Java, Indonesia.
A silky down
The fruits are shaped like a wooden capsule.
Inside is a silky down surrounding the seeds. When it reaches maturity, the capsule opens and reveals a cream-coloured fibre.
Absolutely natural
No pesticides, fertilizers, bleaching or other chemicals are used before and after harvesting the fruit.
Kapok is organic by default.
Without any chemical treatment
1. Opening of the Kapokier capsules
2. Ginning (the process of separating the fibres from the seeds)
3. Compressed for transport
When you choose Kapok, you are supporting sustainable production and helping to preserve the rainforest.
Kapok can be harvested year after year, without needing to cut the trees.
